Owners are encouraged to adopt policies designed to improve water velocity, manage bankside vegetation to provide cover/shelter and create areas with minimal human disturbance wherever possible. Simple and easy measures might include interventions to help keep spawning gravels clean or designating areas as salmon sanctuary areas where no fishing or recreational activity takes place.
The WFA is run by a team of volunteers who will often act as an intermediary for those seeking support for habitat improvements or funding for projects requiring consent.
Through our River Keeper’s network and the presence of our members on and in the rivers, we are the prime observers and actual workers for when it comes to maintaining the banks, clearing fallen trees repairing fences, bridges and other structures.
We are the eyes and ears that work with land owners and our partner organisations when it comes to recording and reporting pollution incidents, access issues and supporting initiatives in tackling the impacts of invasive, non-native species.
